If you enjoy visiting castles then you are lucky to be able to visit some very famous ones in the area.


Urquhart Castle

Open all year every day from 09.30 to 18.00 in summer and 17.00 in winter except over Christmas and New Year.

Audio visual presentation, visitor centre, tea room and of course fabulous views of Loch Ness.  Has very good reviews on Trip Advisor, well worth a visit.


Cawdor Castle

Open 1st May to 6th October 2013 every day 10.00 to 17.30.

A fairytale castle still home to the Cawdor family.  As well as the castle there are three gardens, the Big Wood and a golf course, plenty to keep you occupied.


Fort George

Open all year every day 9.30 to 17.30 in summer and 16.30 in winter except over Christmas and New Year.

Not a castle but worth including here.  Built after the 1746 defeat at Culloden by George II against further Jacobite unrest  Said to be one of the  mightiest artillery fortifications in Britain with canons, muskets, pikes and swords.

See the dog cemetery for Regimental mascots and officers dogs, Regimental museum of the Highlanders, historic barrack rooms and garrison chapel.

Cafe and shop on site.


Eilean Donan Castle

Open 1st February to 24th December every day 10.00 to 17.00.

One of the most visited castles in the Scottish highlands, situated where three sea lochs meet in stunning surroundings.

Visitor centre, gift shop and cafe.
